Prayer pointers:

For God’s Light to shine in the world

To be ready with your story

Today’s text: John 8:12-20

WHAT DOES IT MEAN to be a “contagious Christian?” It begins in two names.

The first is Theophilus, “lover of God.” It can also mean “beloved of God.” The contagious Christian is someone who lives both desiring God and in the desire of God. We do not have to earn God’s love, but rather live in and because of it. Theophilus studies the stories of God, learns them as his or her own story, and finds in them a gleam that reveals what God is like.

The second name is Jesus Christ. The church begins with talk about Jesus. The Apostles are not Scripture scholars, per se; they are friends of Jesus, partners with Jesus, saved by Jesus, blessed by Jesus. They are (as one apostle puts it) determined to know nothing but Christ, and him crucified.

Do you love the story of God? Do you have a story to tell of your life with Jesus? Then you are potentially a contagious Christian.

May your day be grace-filled ~ Pr. Dave Brooks
