Prayer pointers:

To let God’s Law search you

To not be afraid of what the Law will find

To act gracefully this day

Today’s text: Romans 3:19-31

IN MERE CHRISTIANITY, C.S. Lewis makes a simple yet profound observation:

There are two points [I want] to make. First, that human beings, all over the earth, have this curious idea that they ought to behave in a particular way and cannot really get rid of that idea. Secondly, they do not behave in that way. They know the “Law of Nature;” they break it. These two facts are the foundation of all clear thinking about ourselves and the universe we live in.

Sensing this gap, this dilemma, many will want to eliminate the gap by doubling and trebling the operation of law. While the law has a clear roll in ordering society, it cannot finally bridge the gap between what we ought to do and what we actually do. It cannot save. Only operating gracefully toward each other will bridge that gap.

May your day be grace-filled ~ Pr. Dave Brooks
