Prayer Pointers:

To be comforted by the presence of God

To remember the path that Christ has trod

To be grounded in the Word

Today’s text: John 1:1-8

WE ARE ON THE THRESHOLD between Epiphany and Lent, and this passage from John is a fine way to help us make the transition between celebrating God’s light shining among us to that step-by-step journey to the foot of the Cross and beyond. “Remember!” John seems to say: remember how the light shone forth, revealing the contours, the landmarks, the pitfalls. Do not be dismayed when things seem shadowy or dim. Remember what was revealed. We are, like Elisha, given a moment to see the “horses and chariots” of God’s army, not normally visible, but always around us (2 Kings 2:11 and 2 Kings 6:17).

In the weeks ahead, as we sing the Church’s song—a song of exile and hope—let us comfort and encourage each other with the vision we have been given. The City of God is before us, the Company of Saints surrounds us, the Light of God shines on our path, the Word of God is our life.

May your day be grace-filled ~ Pr. Dave Brooks
